He ordered a new DMD chip off aliexpress. I did not anticipate the can of worms I now have. I took it to a local guy who hadn't really worked on a projectors before. I quickly narrowed the issue down to a failing DMD Chip. I had this model and got a white pixel burnt out (warranty expired by about 6 months and unit has 900 hours on it). Hey man, i had a similar experience, curious what you ended up doing? I hope that you have better luck than I have. Needless to say, I am not impressed with their warranty service and makes me skeptical to purchase another Optoma. You would think they would offer a replacement with multiple issues on the unit. These are all issues within the first 10 months of owning the product. However, the time table is unknown at this point because they are "still waiting for the DMD chip to arrive". So they will not touch that issue and are sending it back with new DMD chip and firmware upgrade. I am not certain that's accurate as the picture is still as bright as it was day one. (They offered to sell me a replacement lamp for $249, but they are out of stock and not expecting any more until late October). Mine had 3,600 light source hours on it when I shipped it in for service, so in their response to me, they stated that the lamp was to blame. It would happen every 3-5 mins some days and then it might not do it again for another week or two. It would take 3-5 seconds for it to find the source again. Also, I mentioned an issue to them about the projector (when set to 4K HDR on), would flicker and search for source. I shipped mine (self-paid shipping) to them 2 weeks ago and just received an e-mail response last night saying that the DMD chip would be replaced and THE firmware updated. Glad that you still have some time left on your warranty.
